The total volume of gas and gas condensate fields in Turkmenistan is more than 4.97 trillion cubic meters. Such a reserve was discovered as a result of exploration of 149 deposits, Russian economic information agency Prime reported with reference to Turkmen media.
Out of 149 deposits, 139 were discovered on land and 10 on the Caspian shelf, the report said.
54 fields with a reserve of more than 2.6 billion cubic meters are in development, 11 fields are prepared for development, 73 fields are in exploration, 11 are in conservation, it added.
It is known that the state concerns Turkmengas, Turkmenneft and the State Corporation Turkmengeology are engaged in gas production. At the same time, Turkmengaz produces more than 80% of the total volume of gas produced in the country.
In terms of natural gas reserves, Turkmenistan is among the top four countries in the world along with Russia, Iran and Qatar. China is the largest buyer of Turkmen gas.
