The Anti-Corruption Agency of Kazakhstan reported that on July 13, while trying to cross the border with Russia, the ex-head of the Police Department of the Pavlodar region Massimov Nurlan Myrzakhanovich was detained. He has been on the wanted list since April of this year.
“As a result of operational-search measures, on July 13 of this year, Nurlan Myrzakhanovich Massimov was detained by the anti-corruption service together with the border service while trying to cross the state border with the Russian Federation using forged documents in the East Kazakhstan region,” the agency said.
Nurlan Massimov was born in 1973 and has held various positions in the law enforcement system. Since November 2019, he headed the Pavlodar region police department and was removed from this position after the January events. His cousin, Karim Massimov, ex-head of the KNB, is suspected of treason. In April of this year, he was put on the wanted list because he was suspected of taking a bribe on an especially large scale.
