Uzbekistan receives millions of dollars taken out of country

In Swiss Bern, an agreement was signed on the restitution of funds from Uzbekistan, which must be returned back. The agreement was signed by President of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis and Minister of Justice of Uzbekistan Ruslanbek Davletov, Uzbek media reported.

The funds will be returned through a UN-managed trust fund set up to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Uzbekistan, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in New York.

According to him, the funds will come to Uzbekistan in the form of several trenches.

Over 130 million dollars are ready to be transferred to an account in Uzbekistan. The fund transfer agreement was made possible through a partnership between the UN team in Uzbekistan, led by Resident Coordinator Roli Astkhana, and the Government of Uzbekistan.

Speaking in Bern, Astkhana hailed the initiative of both countries, saying the UN would help direct the funds to “build public confidence by providing tangible and sustainable benefits and improve the lives of the people of Uzbekistan.”

According to the press, we are talking about assets belonging to the daughter of the ex-president of Uzbekistan, Gulnara Karimova, against whom several criminal cases were initiated in different countries.
