Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan to cement bilateral relations

Presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev discussed strengthening of strategic partnership relations between the two countries, according to Uzbek media.

During the phone conversation on August 23, the sides also considered the issues of further development of mutually beneficial cooperation

The leaders noted with satisfaction the noticeable progress in the implementation of the agreements reached following the highest level meetings in June this year.

In early August, a regular meeting of the joint Intergovernmental Commission and the first meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Transport of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey were fruitfully held.

Mutual trade has grown this year by 70 percent. The implementation of joint cooperation projects in the field of agriculture, sericulture and textile industry, mechanical engineering, chemical and other industries has begun. Work is underway to launch the Uzbek-Azerbaijani investment fund as soon as possible. Cultural and humanitarian exchange is expanding.

The heads of state spoke in favor of further building up practical cooperation and noted the importance of holding a Forum of Regions and an exhibition of the industrial potential of the two countries this autumn.

The sides also exchanged views on the regional agenda. The schedule and agenda of the upcoming multilateral meetings, including the upcoming summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Organization of Turkic States in Samarkand, were considered.
