US resumes reconstruction aid to Afghanistan

The USA has resumed its programs for the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan, according to a new report by the Special Inspector for Afghanistan (SIGAR), Avesta reports.

“The Department of State and USAID have reopened recovery programs that ran through August 2021 and provided new funding to other programs that address poverty, hunger, malnutrition, economic stress, and support health care, agriculture, and education,” the statement said.

The health situation in Afghanistan is complicated by the lack of funds and medical doctors.

“Immediately after the Taliban came to power, the health sector faced a shortage of funds, as international support and government funding for the Afghan health sector was immediately discontinued. The World Bank stopped funding its Sehatmandi program, bringing the healthcare system to the brink of collapse,” the report says.

Recall that after the seizure of power in Afghanistan by the radical Taliban movement in August last year, most international organizations refused to cooperate with the new authorities. The Taliban government is not recognized by any state in the world. However, a number of countries cooperate with him on humanitarian issues.
