Two other Kyrgyz banks suspend service of Russian Mir cards

Two Kyrgyz banks, Dos-Kredobank and Bakai-Bank, have suspended transactions with Russian Mir cards, the Russian newspaper Izvestia reported.

“Service of Mir cards, unfortunately, has been terminated, this is an internal decision of our bank. The effect of this ban “will be long,” Bakai-bank told the TASS agency.

“From today, the acceptance and servicing of cards of the National Payment Card System Mir in the acquiring network of the bank is suspended,” the message on the website of Dos-Credobank says.

These two banks became the first of 24 Kyrgyz banks to stop serving customers with Mir cards.

Earlier, Kompanion, one of the largest Kyrgyz banks, stopped servicing cards of the Russian payment system Mir, issued by 21 Russian banks, from October 4. This is due to the decision of the partner processing center, the bank said.

On September 23, it was reported that the service of Russian Mir cards was also suspended in Uzbekistan. In a single nationwide UZCARD processing center, this was explained by “technical reasons.”

A number of Turkish banks also stopped servicing Mir cards. On September 20, the commercial banks DenizBank and Is Bankasi announced this, and a week later, the state-owned banks Halkbank, Ziraat Bank and VakıfBank.

On September 15, the US Treasury announced that Washington was ready to impose sanctions against countries for supporting the use of the Russian National Payment Card System (NSPK) and the Mir national payment system outside of Russia. It was noted that such actions would be perceived as an attempt to circumvent sanctions against Russia in their own interests.

Cards of the national payment system are used in 11 countries of the world – in Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, South Korea and South Ossetia. Soon Mir cards will be accepted in the countries of the Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia and China. Negotiations are already underway.
