Turkmenistan turns into one of largest transit countries on Asia

Turkmenistan is playing an increasingly important role in the Middle Corridor linking East Asia with Europe, according to the Chinese edition of China Briefing, analyzing the statements of newly elected CPC Chairman Xi Jinping at the 20th Party Congress, which ended recently in Beijing, Orient reports.

The expansion of Azerbaijan’s transit capabilities, taking into account the construction of new air harbors, as well as the presence of a modern seaport in Turkmenistan in Turkmenbashi, which has a ring railway connection with all regions of the country and neighboring republics, in particular with Uzbekistan, will help the two countries connect East and West.

On average, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan increased by 620%, which indicates the growth of economic ties between Central Asia and China with the European part of the continent.

In turn, the accession of Turkmenistan to the international transport corridor North-South provides container transit from Russia and reflects its interest in the market of Southern Europe, especially in India.

The Russian side has repeatedly noted the need to join the “race” for the densely populated, rapidly developing Indian-Pakistani market. And it successfully copes with this: Sberbank received permission from the Reserve Bank of India to open accounts in rupees for Russian clients.

In this context, Turkmenistan is turning into one of the largest transit countries on the continent, satisfying the transport needs of China’s export supplies to Europe, as well as Russia’s to India.
