Turkmenistan generates and exports more electricity in 2022

Turkmenistan increased the generation and export of electricity in 7 months of 2022. The growth rate of electricity production amounted to 112.8%, and its export – 141.3%, Turkmenportal reported citing Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Charymyrat Purchekov as saying.

The plan for the generation of electricity and the work done in general by the Ministry of Energy has been completed by 128.4%.

Turkmenistan is actively integrating into the unified energy system of Central Asia and by 2025 will contribute to the construction of new power plants, power lines, modern transformer substations and distribution facilities.

Turkmen electricity is exported to Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and most part of this electricity produced by thermal power plants that use gas.

According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy, Turkmenistan’s recoverable reserves are estimated at no less than 17.5 trillion cubic meters and are ranked 4th in the world in terms of gas reserves after Iran (34 trillion cubic meters), Russia (32.3 trillion cubic meters) and Qatar (24.5 trillion cubic meters).
