Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan held talks on bilateral relations

Ashgabat hosted political consultations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, Turkmen media reports.

A delegation headed by acting Minister of Foreign Affairs  of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov visited Ashgabat last week. The delegation also included the former Minister of Foreign Affairs (1994-2003 and 2012-April 2022) Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is now Deputy Secretary of the Security Council and Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Foreign Policy.

The Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.

During the meeting, the high level of relations between the two states, the effective course of cooperation in the international arena, as well as successful interaction within the framework of international organizations were emphasized, the Turkmen MFA reports.

In turn, the Uzbek MFA notes the comprehensive discussion of the development of a mutually beneficial Uzbek-Turkmen strategic partnership in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, transport-communication, water-energy, consular-legal, cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Particular attention was paid to the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level.

The meeting participants acknowledged successful bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, and exchanged views on topical issues of regional cooperation, including in the economic sphere, in ensuring regional security and jointly combating modern challenges and threats.

The successful activities of the Turkmen-Uzbek working group on the development of cooperation in the field of transport and transit and the mixed commission on international road transport were also noted.

The heads of delegations reaffirmed their readiness to expand the legal framework for bilateral cooperation, including in the field of consular support for the interests of citizens of both countries. As a result of political consultations, the final Protocol was signed.
