Security rating of Central Asian countries

Specialists of the international expert group of the Institute of Peace, together with the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney, annually develop the Global Peace Index, a security rating of the countries of the world.

As of 2022, out of 163 countries included in the rating, Uzbekistan is recognized as the safest country in Central Asia by ranking the 86th. Other countries of Central Asia were ranked: Kyrgyzstan – 91st, Tajikistan – 92nd, Kazakhstan – 97th, Turkmenistan – 104th.

The experts examined the following indicators to compile the final index: internal and external conflicts, their intensity and the number of victims; relations with neighboring countries; the proportion of refugees in the population; political instability and public order; the frequency of terrorist attacks and a number of others.

Afghanistan closes the list of 163 countries.
