Kazakh Karachaganak resumes oil production

Scheduled repairs at Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak field have been completed, oil production has been resumed, Kazakh Energy Minister Bolat Akchulakov said, Kursiv portal reported.

Oil production at the field is carried out according to plan – within 12 million tons per annum, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan said.

Since September 12, oil production has been stopped at the Karachaganak field due to a planned overhaul. The renovation was scheduled to be completed by October 6, 2022.

Oil reserves at the Karachagan field exceed 1 billion tons, gas – 1 trillion cubic meters, it is found in most cases in the world. The development of Karachaganak, according to the PSA signed in 1997 and expected for 40 years, by an international consortium at the end of Shell (29.25%) (through a 100% affiliated company BG Karachaganak Limited), Eni (29.25%), Chevron (18%), Lukoil (13.5%), KazMunayGas (10%).

The Kacharaganak oil field is located in the west of Kazakhstan near the border with Russia. Kazakhstan is one of the largest oil exporters among the countries of Central Asia.
