Kazakh company to construct cascade of HPPs in Kyrgyzstan

Electric Stations OJSC of Kyrgyzstan and Orient Trade Investment Company of Kazakhstan signed Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the implementation of the project on construction and operation of the Kazarman cascade of hydroelectric power plants (HPP) on the Naryn River of Kyrgyzstan

The signing ceremony of the memorandum was held in Bishkek, the press service of Electric Stations OJSC said.

The sides agreed that the Kazakh company will begin construction of the Kazarman cascade of HPPs, consisting of 4 HPPs (Alabuga HPP, Karabulun HPP-1, Karabulun HPP-2, Toguztoro HPP) and complete it within 5-6 years.

The total capacity of the cascade will be 1160 MW, and the estimated cost of construction work will be over USD 1 billion.

This project is included in the list of hydropower development projects of the National Development Program of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2026 with the introduction of best practices in the construction and operation of hydropower facilities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director General of the Kyrgyz state-owned company Taalaibek Baigaziev said that this investment project, along with the construction project of the Kambarata HPP-1, will become one of the drivers for the development of the hydropower potential of the Kyrgyz Republic and will strengthen cooperation between our countries in the water and energy sector.

The head of the Kazakh company Rasul Teimurov confirmed his readiness for the joint implementation of this important project and noted that it would be the next step in the Kazakh-Kyrgyz investment partnership for the benefit of improving the well-being of the peoples of Kyrgyzstan and all of Central Asia.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Kyrgyzstan Rapil Zhoshybaev expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached and stressed that this project will allow our countries to ensure energy security in the region, encourage the business community to invest in promising hydropower projects, and strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation within the framework of the instructions heads of two states.
