Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Dinara Kemelova and Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) discussed issues of bilateral cooperation.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic said that the meeting was held as part of the general debate of the 10th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
During the meeting, the deputy head noted the 30th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s joining the organization and presented a message from President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov on the prospects for further cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN.
In addition, Kemelova touched upon the results of the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia held in Cholpon-Ata.
In particular, noting the positive integration dynamics in the region, Kemelova informed the Secretary General about the adoption by the Central Asian states of a number of important documents, including the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st century, the report said.
In conclusion, the representative of the Foreign Ministry spoke about the main foreign policy initiatives of the country, in particular, to promote the mining agenda in the international arena and education in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Kemelova also held meetings with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca and the head of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) office in New York, Ligia Norona.
During the meetings, an exchange of views took place on promising ways to increase cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN to overcome modern challenges and threats facing the world community and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the Foreign Ministry said.
