Japan allocates large loan to Uzbekistan

Japanese Ambassador to Uzbekistan Yoshinori Fujiyama and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev exchanged notes in Tashkent, according to which Japan allocates $200 million to Uzbekistan. The funds are allocated for the implementation of the project for the development of the value chain in the horticultural sector, the Podrobno.uz portal reports.

The agriculture of Uzbekistan needs to diversify the production of horticultural crops such as vegetables and fruits, as well as to strengthen its export potential.

The Japanese loan will be aimed at expanding the horticultural value chain and improving access to finance by providing a two-stage loan to farmers, farms engaged in the production, processing and distribution of horticultural crops. The loan will also build the capacity of participating financial institutions and support the end users of farms.

The loan is granted for 15 years, including a five-year grace period.
Japan is a traditional donor to Uzbekistan, on whose credit funds large industrial enterprises, including automobile plants, were built.
