Impressive result of Mirziyoyev’s visit to Riyadh – agreements worth $12 billion

The two relevant ministries of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia have signed several major agreements worth $12 billion at once. The signing of the agreements took place during a recent official visit by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Riyadh between the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia and major Saudi companies.

According to one of the agreements, the contribution of Saudi Arabia to the development of green energy in Uzbekistan is provided. In addition, an agreement was signed on the construction of a wind farm by the Arab company ACWA Power, which will be able to generate electricity with a capacity of 1.5 GW in Karakalpakstan, in the largest and most desert region of Uzbekistan. The park is expected to be the largest wind farm in the world, and its capacity will provide electricity to 1.65 million households and offset 2.4 million tons of carbon emissions per year.

According to another agreement, Saudi Arabia intends to invest $10 billion in Uzbekistan’s energy complex over the next five years.

Uzbekistan, together with partners from Saudi Arabia, is already implementing a number of energy projects. ACWA Power is building two wind farms with a capacity of 500 megawatts each in two districts of the Bukhara region. In addition, a wind power plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts is being built in the Karauzyak region of Karakalpakstan. At the same time, the same company from Saudi Arabia is building a thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts in the city of Shirin, Syrdarya region, with its commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023. The total capacity of these three wind farms and thermal power plants in the Syr Darya is 2,600 megawatts.

Uzbekistan expand cooperation with other countries and announced open policy when Mirzieyev came to power in 2016 after the death of the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
