EAEU to share experience with SCO on increasing settlements in national currencies

The EAEU is ready to share its experience with the SCO states in the field of the share of settlements in national currencies, Vladimir Kovalev, Advisor to the Chairman of the EEC Board, said, Sputnik reports.

Kovaleva determined whether at the SCO summit in Samarkand the issue of increasing the share of national currencies in mutual settlements was discussed back in May, it was also discussed at the summit in Samarkand, and in the end a roadmap was signed to increase the share of national currencies, Kovalev said.

The EEC representative stressed that the EEC has significant achievements in this area – 74% of mutual settlements made in national currencies.

“We are ready to offer our colleagues from the SCO countries those and algorithms that have already been freely tested in the EAEU. Now we are ready with our proposals, which we will definitely submit in the near future,” Kovalev said.

He also noted positive observations within the SCO. For example, since 2015, the share of the dollar in settlements between Russia and China has doubled, the share in rubles. Last year, the share of the ruble in trade between Russia and India exceeded 50%.

On September 15, Head of the EEC Board Mikhail Myasnikovich and SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming discussed the prospects for cooperation in broad mutual settlements in national currencies, trade financing and investments affecting the interests of circles and youth. Myasnikovich proposed to jointly develop a large transport and logistics project, authorized to “tie together the territories of the Eurasian region.”

In connection with the aggravation of relations between Western countries and Russia, which have come into conflict with self-government, many trade operations with Russia are forced to survive on settlements in US currency.
