Chinese tea cargo to Uzbekistan goes through Kyrgyzstan

In early November 2022, a cargo of Chinese tea weighing more than 120 tons will arrive in Uzbekistan after 15 days of travel, Dunyo Agency reported.

The cargo was shipped from Tuanjiecun station in Chongqing city in Central China. The first trip of transit traffic along the route China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan was launched there, the Dunyo reported.

The Chinese cargo was sent to Xinjiang province on the border with Kyrgyzstan by rail. From there, Chinese tea will be sent by road to the Irkeshtam border crossing, after which it will supposedly arrive in Uzbekistan in 15 days, China’s central newspaper People’s Daily wrote.

Currently, China is the largest trading partner of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. “This is the first chartered transit trip on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan route, which we launched based on market demand,” said Zhang Ruiyu, sales manager of the marketing department of the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe logistics company.

Traditional intermodal rail routes mainly pass through the Khorgos checkpoint in Xinjiang, while the new route uses the international multimodal container transport method “railway + highway” and exits through China’s westernmost checkpoint, Irkeshtam. The distance and time of transportation can be reduced, while at the same time the load on the existing railway ports will be reduced.
