This issue was discussed during the 4th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation, which took place in Baku on August 16, Interfax-Azerbaijan reported with reference to the Government of Azerbaijan.
“Baku’s interest in this route comes from taking into account the growth in cargo transportation from Asia to Europe and the need to diversify routes in the Central Asian region, as well as to attract a large amount of transit cargo along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line,” the Azerbaijani government said.
The parties also noted the importance of developing and increasing the volume of cargo transportation of the international multimodal route Asia-Pacific region-China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Turkey-Europe.
“During the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on facilitating bilateral and transit cargo transportation, including multimodal cargo transportation within the framework of existing bilateral and multilateral agreements and transport corridors, including using the potential of the railway. Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route,” the Government said.
