Asia+: Tajikistan already buys gasoline and diesel for rubles

Tajik companies import oil products (by 88.2%) from Russia for Russian rubles. This was reported to “Asia-Plus” in the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan.

For 5 months of 2022, the ministry recorded the import of fuels and lubricants from different countries in a total volume of 480 thousand 162 tons, which is 65 thousand 500 tons more than in the same period last year.

In addition, in January-June, more than 183 thousand tons of liquefied gas were imported, about 87% of the total volume was purchased in Kazakhstan for US dollars. Russia’s share in the liquefied natural gas market is only 0.4%.

The Department of Production, Processing and Supply of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic notes that, according to the instructions of the government, importing companies can freely buy / sell oil and gas products from Russia in Russian rubles.

According to entrepreneurs, the vast majority of imported gasoline and diesel in Tajikistan is now bought in Russian rubles. Liquefied gas (propane) is bought mainly from the Kazakh company Tengezchevroil in US dollars.

“Due to anti-Russian sanctions, most companies switched to Russian rubles. None of the Russian companies sell gasoline and diesel in US dollars.

Also, due to sanctions, there were problems with logistics and paperwork for many supplier companies. Thus, if before the goods arrived in Tajikistan in 15-20 days, today it is 1-1.5 months longer, because the paperwork and logistics take longer,” Deputy Director of Nuroil LLC told Asia-Plus » Murod Shukurov.
