Tokayev proposes to create green corridor between CICA countries

A green corridor for the supply of standardized products between the countries participating in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was proposed by President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in Astana.

The head of Kazakhstan announced his initiative during the sixth CICA summit, Sputnik reports.

A really working mechanism for ensuring food security is needed in the CICA area, Tokayev said.

“Asia produces two-thirds of the world’s agricultural products, but continues to be vulnerable in this area. We need to develop unified approaches to assessing the compliance of important products with national standards, as well as create green corridors between CICA member states for this category of goods,” Kazakh leader said.

Tokayev noted that a promising direction for CICA is to establish cooperation with the Islamic Organization for Food Security, whose headquarters is located in Astana.

“Given the agricultural potential of our countries, we could take measures to provide countries in need with food and fertilizers,” the President of Kazakhstan added.

CICA is an interstate forum created on the initiative of Kazakhstan in 1992, its activities are aimed at creating conditions for dialogue, decision-making and implementation of measures in the field of ensuring security in Asia.

Now the forum has 28 participants, covering about 90% of the territory and population of Asia. A number of states and five international organizations, including the UN, have the status of observers.

The CICA summit took place on October 13, 2022 in Astana.
