Kazakhstan suspends arms exports

The proposal of the Defense Industry Commission to suspend the export of weapons was supported in Nur-Sultan, according to the official Telegram channel of the Government of Kazakhstan.

The meeting participants, chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, considered the proposal of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development to suspend the export of weapons, military equipment and military products until the end of August 2023. This proposal was supported by the members of the Commission.

The meeting participants also discussed plans to audit legal entities that have licenses and amend the law “On Permits and Notifications”.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at a meeting of the Security Council of Kazakhstan at the beginning of the week, raised the issue of the possibility of Kazakh weapons getting into zones of military conflicts.

The members of the Security Council discussed the production and purchase of weapons, as well as export control in this area.

The reason for the discussion of the export of weapons from Kazakhstan was messages in social networks, in particular in telegram channels with a link to LiveJournal about the sale of weapons by Kazakhstan to the UK through a Jordanian company. This weapon was then to be delivered to Ukraine.
