Volume of counterfeit goods in EAEU grows by third

The volume of counterfeit goods increased by more than 30% in 2021. The volume of counterfeit goods amounted to more than 18 million units, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Minister of Economy and Financial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, said.

Speaking at the X Anniversary International Forum “Anti-counterfeit-2022”, Sagintayev said that the EEC had prepared a report on the field of protection of intellectual property rights for 2021. According to data given in the report, the number of violations in the field of intellectual property increased by 1.7% and amounted to 11,120. Of these, almost 2,000 are criminal offenses, the rest are administrative offenses. Of the total number of infringements, about 92% accounted for the illegal use of trademarks, Sputnik reported.

“The volume of counterfeit goods in the EAEU increased by 33 percent last year and amounted to more than 18 million units,” the minister said.
The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)  includes Russia. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, which trade among themselves without customs duties.

Clothing, shoes, perfumes, cosmetics, food, optical media, spare parts, toys and printed matter occupy the leading positions in counterfeit goods, Sagintayev said.
