Uzbekistan proposes to create an international negotiating group on Afghanistan.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested that Asian countries apply to the UN General Assembly with an initiative to form an international negotiating group to prepare and agree on an algorithm for fulfilling obligations with the Afghan authorities, Interfax reports.
“In order to achieve a broad consensus on Afghan problems and take practical measures at the global level, we propose to consider the possibility of a joint appeal by Asian countries to the UN General Assembly with the initiative to form a high-level international negotiating group to prepare and agree with the Afghan authorities on an algorithm for the phased fulfillment of the obligations of the parties,” – said Mirziyoyev, speaking at the CICA meeting in Astana.
He expressed regret that, against the background of other acute problems, the issue of the Afghan settlement began to fade into the background. At the same time, he declared the inadmissibility of repeating the sad experience of the past, when this country turned into an international terrorist hub.
“It is necessary to develop common coordinated approaches to interaction with the interim government of Afghanistan,” Mirziyoyev stressed.
The President of Uzbekistan is on a two-day visit to Astana to attend the CICA and CIS summits.
