Tokayev calls for humanity and patience towards Russian citizens

There is “neither crisis nor panic” in Kazakhstan in connection with the influx of Russians, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said. However, he called the situation “difficult” and promised to discuss it with the Russian side. He said about this during a trip to the Turkestan region.

“We will hold talks with the Russian side and will solve this problem in the interests of our country,” Tokayev said.

“In this difficult situation, first of all, it is necessary to show humanity, patience and organization,” Tokayev urged.

“We do not have a crisis or panic. The government must do its job. Visitors from abroad will be assisted, but they will not receive any preferences. All work must be carried out in accordance with the law and our obligations,” the President of Kazakhstan said.

“The most important thing is that we maintain agreement with neighboring countries. We will not lose anything from this. In recent days, many people from Russia have been coming to us. Most of them are forced to leave due to the current hopeless situation. We must take care of them and provide their security. This is a political and humanitarian issue. I instructed the government to take the necessary measures,” Tokayev said.

On September 23, the border service of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan reported that it was registering an increase in the number of foreigners entering the border with Russia. The Migration Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan said they were monitoring the situation. The Ministry of Labor of Kazakhstan expressed the opinion that the influx of Russians will not affect the situation on the labor market. The Ministry of Trade of Kazakhstan said that so far they have not noticed an increase in food prices due to migration.

On September 26, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, instructed to ensure law and order in connection with the increase in the number of visitors from Russia, to strengthen explanatory work and help visitors with registration and work. At the same time, he instructed officials to stabilize the situation on the rental housing market.

After the announcement of partial mobilization in Russia on September 21, the flow of citizens leaving the country increased sharply. A large number of Russians left for neighboring Kazakhstan and then moved to Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
