Tajikistan sells electricity worth almost $65 mln in 2022

Tajikistan has exported electricity worth $64.5 million since the beginning of 2022.

The amount of electricity sold in seven months of 2022 exceeded the figures for the same period last year by 17.2%, the Statistical Committee of Tajikistan reported.

In January-July 2021, electricity was sold abroad in the amount of more than $55 million.

Electricity is mainly exported to Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.

According to data of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, more than 12.5 billion kWh of electricity was generated in 2022. This is 3% more than a year earlier. More than 11.6 billion kW/h of this volume is accounted for by hydroelectric power plants.

Hydro power plants produced 805 million kWh of electricity in seven months of this year. This year, HPPs have reduced electricity generation by 18.4% compared to the same period in 2021.

Tajikistan has several large hydroelectric power plants, and the total potential of hydropower resources is over 300 billion kWh.
