Tajikistan harvests cotton

About 196 thousand tons of raw cotton have been harvested in Tajikistan since the beginning of the cotton harvest as of October 1 of this year, Avesta reported.

According to data of the Department of Crop Production of the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, this year cotton was sown on an area of ​​181,541 hectares of land.

So, in the Sughd region, cotton is sown on an area of ​​57 thousand 199 hectares, in Khatlon region – 121 thousand 694 hectares, and in the regions of republican subordination this figure is 2 thousand 689 hectares.

The forecast plan for cotton harvest this year, as reported by the Tajik Ministry of Agriculture, is 425,000 tons.

Meanwhile,  195 thousand 764.5 tons of cotton were harvested in Tajikistan by October 1.

55 thousand 863 tons were collected in Sughd, 137 thousand 476 tons in Khatlon and 2 thousand 426 tons in rest of the country.

Tajikistan is one of the largest cotton producers in Central Asia. In addition to Tajikistan, cotton is grown on an industrial scale in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and southern Kazakhstan.
