Tajikistan calls on WB to increase funding

Tajikistan called on the World Bank to increase funding for the national economy, taking into account the influence of external factors, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan reported.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Zavki Zavkizoda, expressed this opinion of the country’s leadership during negotiations with the World Bank delegation, which was headed by the WB Resident Representative in Tajikistan Ozan Sevimli.

Zavkizoda expressed gratitude to the World Bank for mutually beneficial cooperation related to the development of the national economy and contribution to the implementation of the country’s goals and priorities.

The sides also discussed bilateral cooperation to support the financing of the country’s strategic goals and measures provided for by the Action Plan to prevent the impact of potential risks on the national economy, approved by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated March 18, 2022.

The interlocutors also discussed the implementation of sectoral and regional strategies and programs for the development of Tajikistan, including the implementation of the Medium-Term Program for the Development of the Digital Economy in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2025.

The Tajik minister called on the World Bank to increase financing for the national economy, taking into account the prevention and reduction of the impact of global crises and climate change.

The sides expressed their readiness to implement the discussed issues, the Tajik ministry said in a statement.

WB is one of the main creditors of Tajikistan. With a total external debt of $3.2 billion, Tajikistan owes more than $1.1 billion to Ineximbank of China, more than $0.5 billion in Eurobonds and about $0.4 billion to the World Bank.
