Ritmeurasia: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Uzbekistan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Uzbekistan, the press service of the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan reports.

At the airport, the Russian minister was met by acting. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov.

During the two-day visit of the head of the Russian foreign policy department, participation in a meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers, negotiations with the leadership of the republic, as well as a number of bilateral meetings “on the sidelines” are planned.

Recall, from July 28 to 29, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CMFA) of the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Tashkent.

Earlier, all eight foreign ministers of the SCO countries confirmed their readiness to come personally to the Ministerial Council meeting, where they will discuss the current state of affairs in the world and the region.

The SCO is an international organization founded in 2001. Its members are Uzbekistan, Russia, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. Observer countries – Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia, partner countries – Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka. At the SCO summit in Dushanbe in September 2021, the procedure for admitting Iran to the organization and granting the status of a dialogue partner to Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia was launched. This year, Belarus officially applied to join the SCO as a full member.
