Residents of Batken demands abolition of protocol on border with Tajikistan

Residents of border villages again gathered in the building of the Batken regional administration, 24.kg reports.

According to witnesses, the gathered participants of the rally demanded Abdikarim Alimbaev, the plenipotentiary representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan in the region, to organize a meeting with the chairman of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev.

Among the protesters, demands were heard to cancel the protocol on frontier posts, signed by the heads of the special services of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

On September 25, the heads of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan Kamchybek Tashiev and Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov held talks.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to remove and continue not to deploy any types of border guard units in the areas of the border outposts “Tamdyk” (KR) and “Bedak” (RT), posts “Bulak-Bashi” (KR) and “Keh” (RT), posts “Katta-Tuz” (KR) and “Karakchikum” (RT), posts “Ak-Sai” in the area of ​​Chaikhana (KR) and “Sharshara” in the area of ​​Khojai-Alo (RT). The buildings and structures of the units will be mothballed.

On the morning of September 16, shooting began at several sites on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Settlements in the Leilek and Batken regions came under fire. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in the Batken and Leilek districts, the village of Dzhekendi in the Chon-Alai district of the Osh region left their homes. 198 people were injured, 62 died. An emergency mode was introduced in the Batken region.
