More than 7,000 people gather in Astana to meet with Pontiff

More than 7,000 people came to the meeting with Pope Francis in Astana, Kazinform reported. He arrived in Astana on September 13 and today took part in the Holy Mass at the EXPO territory.

More than 7,000 people attended the mass, the number of countries is being specified. Pilgrims from the north of the country, as well as from Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Germany, and Austria arrived to participate in the Holy Mass, the agency reported.

Pope Francis made his first visit to Kazakhstan as part of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which brought together representatives of all world religions.

On the first day of his visit, Pope Francis met with President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as well as with representatives of the foreign diplomatic corps and civil society accredited in the country.

On the final day of the visit, he plans to attend the closing of the 7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions and the adoption of its final declaration, as well as meet with clergy, monastics and seminarians of the Roman Catholic Church from Kazakhstan and neighboring countries.
