Leaders of Kazakhstan and China call modern relations of two countries “Golden 30th Anniversary”

At the talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, who arrived in Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recalled that this year marks 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and China.

“It is symbolic that your visit coincided with this anniversary milestone. During this short period, we have established strong interstate ties. I sincerely thank you for supporting the economic development of Kazakhstan and our international initiatives,” the Kazakh president said.

Tokayev stressed that the eternal all-round strategic partnership announced during his state visit to Beijing in September 2019 has reached a predetermined trajectory. The Joint Statement adopted today opens a new “Golden 30th anniversary” of bilateral relations, the president of Kazakhstan believes. It is for this reason that he calls the visit of the China leader extremely important.

The Chinese president highly appreciated the level of Kazakh-Chinese relations and expressed confidence that this visit would give a new impetus to their further strengthening. He stressed that China supports Kazakhstan’s position on regional and international issues.

“Undoubtedly, under your leadership, the people of Kazakhstan will achieve new successes in state building and national revival. Once again I would like to assure you that the Chinese Government pays great attention to relations with Kazakhstan. No matter how the international situation changes, we will continue to strongly support Kazakhstan in protecting its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, firmly support your ongoing reforms to ensure stability and development, and categorically oppose interference of any forces in the internal affairs of your country,” the Chinese leader said.

“Our countries have become the vanguard of interaction in a number of areas. We were among the first to resolve border issues, turning a common border of 1,780 kilometers into bonds of friendship between peoples. We were one of the first to develop international cooperation in the field of industrialization, setting an example of interaction within the framework of the One Belt, One Road program. We have brought bilateral relations to the level of eternal comprehensive strategic partnership, which has no analogues in Chinese diplomacy, having achieved their breakthrough development. Today, Kazakh-Chinese relations have reached a new historical start,” Xi Jinping said.

The sides discussed the prospects for building up cooperation in the transport, logistics and agro-industrial sectors, and also considered the issue of using transboundary water resources.

As a result of the negotiations, a Joint Statement was signed on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People’s Republic of China.

After completing a one-day official visit to Kazakhstan, Xi Jinping flew to Tashkent, where he will also make an official visit to Uzbekistan before the SCO Summit starts in Samarkand.
