An armed conflict has begun today morning on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. The fight took place in the border between Kyrgyzstan’s Batken oblast and Tajikstan’s Khudjant oblast. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, by noon more than 13 thousand people were evacuated from the border villages.

According to official bodies of both statesthe sides used mortars, and even heavy weapons. A video about the shelling of the regional center of the Batken region was circulated on social networks.

The heads of the Border Services of both sides held talks and agreed to stop the shelling. However, a little later, the clashes began again.

According to the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, the Tajik side first violated the agreement, used weapons and even seized some territories of Kyrgyzstan along the border.

After the talks between the presidents of two countries, the intensity of the clashes decreased, but the tension remains, the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.

In 2021, during a meeting of the heads of the defense departments of the CSTO countries, an armed conflict also took place on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. As a result of the then armed clashes, the Kyrgyz side lost 39 people, and the Tajik side less than 20 people officially.

Now the situation repeated itself during the Summit of the heads of the SCO countries in Samarkand.
