Interfax: Prospects for cooperation in transport sector were discussed in Turkmenistan

The heads of transport departments of a number of countries discussed the possibility of developing regional projects with Turkmenistan, as well as with the involvement of Afghanistan, the Turkmen news agency Orient reports.

It is noted that a round of bilateral negotiations with the heads of delegations of the UN Ministerial Conference for Landlocked Developing Countries was held by the Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mamedkhan Chakiev.

In particular, Chakiev discussed the prospects for cooperation with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates Suheil Al-Mazrui, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov, the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim. Chakiyev also met with Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Shahriar Afandizadeh.
The parties assessed the state and potential of expanding transport and transit ties between the states, the possibility of implementing regional projects in various geographical areas, including with the involvement of Afghanistan, and more fully utilizing the capacities of the port of Turkmenbashi in the Caspian Sea.

The agenda of the meetings also included issues of simplification of transport and transit procedures, elimination of administrative barriers in the transportation of goods, unification and harmonization of tariffs and duties to facilitate and speed up border operations.

The parties agreed to continue working meetings at the level of representatives of transport organizations on a regular basis to discuss emerging issues.
