Summit of Organization of Turkic States to be held in November in Tashkent

The summit of the heads of state of the Organization of Turkic States will be held in November 11 in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry announced.

Previously, this organization was called the Turkic Council and was renamed in early 2022. The upcoming summit will be held in a new format.

Uzbekistan became a member of the Turkic Council in 2019. The Organization also includes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. Hungary and Turkmenistan have observer status.

In connection with the approaching date of the Summit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan announced the start of accreditation of representatives of foreign media to cover its work.

The main goals and objectives of the Organization, as set out in Article 2 of the Nakhchivan Agreement, are as follows:

– strengthening between the parties of mutual trust, friendship and good neighborliness;
– maintaining peace and strengthening security in the region and the world as a whole;
– search for common points of view on foreign policy issues;
– encouraging effective regional and bilateral cooperation in all areas of common interest;
– creation of favorable conditions for trade and investment;
striving for comprehensive and balanced economic growth, social and cultural development;
– discussion of issues to ensure the rule of law, good governance and guarantees of human rights;
– expansion of interaction in the field of science and technology, education and culture;
– encouraging interaction between the media;
– exchange of information and cooperation in various areas of legal relations.

The initiator of the creation of the organization is Turkiye, which continues to play a leading role in it. Turkiye also became the author of reformatting the Turkic Council into a full-fledged Organization of Turkic States.
