Kazakhstan’s majority of citizens support Tokayev’s proposals

A telephone survey of 2,394 respondents over 18 years of age was conducted among the urban and urban population in the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent and 17 nearest ones, Kazinform reported.

The political initiatives of the president of Kazakhstan, announced by the head of state in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan, were positively received by the majority of respondents in a survey conducted by the Institute for Public Policy of Kazakhstan.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in his Address on September 1, 2022, proposeto review the number and duration of the presidential term. In particular, the introduction of a seven-year presidential term was initiated.

82.4% of those surveyed by the Institute support the political innovation proposed by Tokayev.

According to data of the organization, the key arguments of the supporters of this initiative are:

– the conviction that it is possible to implement any election program in 7 years (61.7%);

– the confidence that in 7 years it is impossible to monopolize all power structures (14.9%).

It is noteworthy that for every 5th respondent (19.5%) it is very important that the president will be elected only once, noted in the Institute for Public Policy.

The telephone survey was conducted on September 7, 2022 among residents of Kazakhstan over 18 years of age in all regions of the country and the cities of Almaty, Shymkent and Nur-Sultan.

Tokayev was elected President of Kazakhstan in 2019. For two years, the political nomenklatura had to reckon with the opinion of the new president and at the same time listen to the opinion of the former President Nazarbayev. As a result of massive illegal actions and the suppression of rioters, Tokayev made drastic personnel changes, and on September 1 he proposed holding early presidential elections of Kazakhstan according to changed election rules.

Many experts in Kazakhstan say that Tokayev will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections, as now the population of the country supports his efforts to reform the country’s governance.
