The 2022 tourist summer season has been a huge success, Kyrgyz officials say. According to preliminary data, three times more foreign tourists visited Kyrgyzstan this summer than in 2021.
“A lot of tourists come to us. Kyrgyzstan is a traditional destination for Russians. But if in the six months of last year we received a million tourists, this year it is three times more. The flow of tourists before the start of the pandemic was noticeably smaller, so this year’s growth was expecting,” Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the republic Azamat Zhamankulov.
“Kyrgyzstan is waiting and open for guests at any time of the year. This year, a Tourism Development Fund was created in the country, good funds were invested to attract investments and improve infrastructure and services. Today, everything is being done to meet each guest at a high level,” the minister concluded.
According to the minister’s words, foreigners are interested not only in summer beach holidays in Issyk-Kul. They are interested in natural beauties and sights of Kyrgyzstan. Many extreme sports lovers and climbers come to conquer the seven-thousanders – Lenin Peak, Pobeda Peak, Khan-Tengri Peak. In winter, skiing enthusiasts come to Kyrgyzstan. Another direction of tourism is historical, cultural tourism – travelers go to the legendary places of the Great Silk Road.
According to data of the Border Guard Service of Kyrgyzstan, the total number of foreigners classified by the World Tourism Organization for the six months of 2022 amounted to 3.8 million people, while in the first half of last year this figure was 1.85 million people.
Kyrgyzstan is located in Central Asia between China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The total area of the country is about 200 thousand square km. Mountains make up 93% of the country’s territory. At an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level, Issyk-Kul Lake is located, which does not freeze in the coldest season.
The population of Kyrgyzstan is 6.5 million people. Capital of the country is Bishkek, with population of 1.3 million people.
