Birth rate in Kazakhstan falls over year

A decrease in the birth rate was noted in Kazakhstan in 2022,  Nur.kz reported.

According to data of the Bureau of National Statistics of KazakhstanIn the first half of this year, 18,000 fewer children were born in the country than in the same period last year.

Since the beginning of 2022, 198.1 thousand children were born, 8.4% or 18.1 thousand less than in the same period last year, the report said.

On the one hand, this can be explained precisely by the increase in the birth rate in the first half of 2021, which was associated with a limited choice of alternative leisure activities during the quarantines of 2020. But everything is far from being so simple, it said.

In seven regions of Kazakhstan, the birth rate in the first half of the year was at a minimum for at least 11 years. These are mainly the “oldest” regions of the country, located in the north, east and center: Akmola, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, Zhambyl and East Kazakhstan regions.

In general, the average age of women, capable of childbearing, has increased markedly. And observers of the decline in the birth rate throughout Kazakhstan associate it with this factor,  Nur.kz reported.

Population of Kazakhstan iz 19,6 mln people. Kazakhstan is the second most populous country in Central Asia after Uzbekistan, with over 36 million people.
